Learning new things in games…

I’m interested in how designers can introduce really new things to do in games. So I’ve been watching some videos and reading what other people have done. I’m working on my own blog post, but it still sounds like an infomercial, LOL.

Today I just wanted to say hey, look at this cool video. A GDC Vault talk, from GDC 2021 by Mark Burroughs and Grant Hoechst from Naughty Dog. The talk is about how they designed an interactive guitar in the game.

It’s a great talk because they state two things in the beginning: why they personally wanted to make this feature and what requirements this feature had to meet in order to be a part of the project.

Artists need funding, so all great projects are going to have requirements. This talk just presented the joy and the constraints very nicely.
